Binaural Beats Generator
Choose a carrier and a beat frequency; the difference is what you perceive. It only works on headphones, and it starts quiet.
Protect your hearing
Left ear 195 Hz, right ear 205 Hz. The tones differ by 10 Hz.
A binaural beat is a pulsing sound some listeners notice when each ear hears a slightly different tone. It needs headphones: through speakers the two tones mix in the air and you hear an ordinary beat instead. This tool makes the sound only. It makes no claim about effects on the mind or body.
The highest point of the wave, relative to digital full scale.
Up to 12 hours. Long files are written in pieces, so length costs time, not memory.
Fades start and end the file smoothly, so it does not click. Keep at least a few milliseconds.
How it works
- Put on headphones and set a low volume.
- Choose the carrier frequency and the beat frequency.
- Press Play, or create a file to download.
What it does
The tool plays one steady tone in your left ear and a slightly different one in your right ear. You choose the carrier, the middle frequency, and the beat, the difference between the two ears. With a carrier of 200 Hz and a beat of 10 Hz, the left ear gets 195 Hz and the right ear 205 Hz. Many listeners notice a slow pulse at the beat rate. You can play it live, or save it as a stereo file of any length up to 12 hours.
It makes sound, nothing more. This page makes no claims about effects on attention, sleep, mood or health.
Headphones and levels
Binaural beats need headphones so that each ear hears only its own tone. On speakers the two tones blend in the air and you get an ordinary beating sound, which is not the same thing. Keep the volume low: the sound is steady and close to your ears, and the default level of −18 dBFS is only a starting point, not a guarantee of a comfortable volume on your headphones.
Do not use it when you need to hear your surroundings, such as when driving.
Options
A soft noise bed can be mixed under the tones, white, pink or brown, with different noise in each ear. Fades at the start and end default to two seconds. The tones are pure sine waves at the exact frequencies shown on the page.
Questions
Why do I need headphones?
The effect depends on each ear hearing a different tone. Speakers mix both tones in the room, so you hear an acoustic beat instead.
What carrier and beat should I use?
There is no correct setting. A carrier between 100 and 500 Hz is comfortable for most people, and beats are usually between 1 and 40 Hz. Try a few and keep the one you like.
Does this treat anything or change brain activity?
This tool does not claim that. It generates two tones. If you have a medical concern, talk to a qualified professional.
Can I make a long file for sleep or work?
Yes, up to 12 hours in one file. Use MP3 or FLAC to keep it a reasonable size, and keep the volume low.
