Swap Left and Right Channels

Left becomes right and right becomes left.

or drop it here

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, WMA, AMR and the sound of most videos. Files stay on your device.

How it works

  1. Choose a stereo file.
  2. Check the preview; the left and right sides are swapped.
  3. Export and download.

What it does

Swap channels exchanges the left and right channels of a stereo file: what was in the left speaker plays from the right and the other way round. It does not change the level, timing or tone of anything.

When you need it

It fixes recordings where the channels were wired or labelled the wrong way round, for example a guitar on the right that should be on the left, or a dialogue track that moves the opposite way to the picture. To check, press Preview and listen for a sound that starts on the other side.

It needs a stereo file. A mono file has nothing to swap, and files with more than two channels are not supported.

Output

WAV, FLAC and AIFF stay lossless. Lossy formats are encoded once more. Tags are kept unless you choose to remove them.

Questions

Will swapping channels change the sound quality?

No. The samples are only moved between channels. Lossy formats are encoded again after swapping.

How do I know which channel is which?

The split stereo channels tool lets you hear and download each side on its own.

Can I swap channels of a mono file?

No. A mono file has one channel. Convert it to stereo first if you want to place it on one side with the pan tool.
