Audio Tag Editor

Fix the title, artist and artwork of your music files. The audio itself is not re-encoded.

or drop it here

MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, WAV and AIFF can be edited. WMA and WebM can only be read.. Files stay on your device.

How it works

  1. Choose an audio file; its current tags appear.
  2. Edit the fields, and replace or remove the cover art.
  3. Click Save tags; the audio is copied without re-encoding.
  4. Check the confirmation, then download the tagged file.

What you can edit

Title, artist, album, album artist, track and disc numbers with totals, year or date, genre, composer, copyright, comment and the cover art. Leave a field alone and it stays exactly as it was; empty a field and that tag is removed. Genre suggests common names but takes anything you type.

Tags you do not touch are kept, including ones this page has no field for, such as lyrics or replay-gain values in MP3, M4A, FLAC and Ogg files. The saved file keeps its name, so rename it in the result list if you like.

The audio is not re-encoded

MP3, AAC, M4A, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis and Opus files are rewritten by copying the compressed audio packets into a new container with the new tags, so the sound is bit for bit the same and there is no generation loss. WAV and AIFF files only have their tag chunks replaced; the samples are copied byte for byte. After saving, the page reads the new file again and tells you if any change did not make it in.

Which formats can be edited

Editable: MP3, AAC (ADTS), M4A and M4B, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Opus, WAV and AIFF. M4B chapters are kept.

Not editable, and shown read-only with the reason: WMA (the tags can be read but not written in a browser), WebM and Matroska, MP4 files that contain video (rewriting them would drop the picture), AMR and Ogg files with another codec. Convert the audio to M4A, MP3 or FLAC first, then edit it.

WAV and AIFF have no standard place for everything: WAV keeps tags in a RIFF INFO chunk plus an ID3 chunk for artwork, album artist, disc number and composer. Support for those chunks varies between players, which is why this page flags WAV and AIFF.

Cover art

Choose, drop or paste a JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF of up to 10 MB. The page reads the real type and size from the image, not the file name, and refuses SVG. A square picture of 600 to 3000 pixels works well in most players. Saving writes one front cover and replaces any other embedded pictures; you see how many will be replaced before you save.

Questions

Will editing tags change the sound or lower the quality?

No. The audio data is copied unchanged, so the decoded sound is identical. Only the tag data around it is rewritten.

Why can I not edit my WMA or MP4 file?

Browsers cannot safely rewrite WMA tags, and changing the tags of an MP4 that contains video would mean rebuilding the video too. The page shows the existing tags and explains the limit. Convert the audio to MP3 or M4A and edit that.

My player does not show the new tags. What now?

Some players cache tags or read only one tag type. WAV and AIFF are the usual cases. MP3, M4A and FLAC files work in nearly every player; restart the player or re-import the file if it keeps showing the old data.

Can I edit several files at once?

This page edits one file at a time. To clear the tags of many files together, use the remove metadata tool.

Is my music uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and rewritten in your browser and never sent to a server.
