Trim Audio

Keep the part you want. Drag on the waveform or type exact times, listen, then export.

or drop it here

MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, WMA, AMR and the sound of most videos. Files stay on your device.

How it works

  1. Choose an audio file; the waveform appears.
  2. Drag the handles or type the start and end times.
  3. Press play to check the selection; add fades if you like.
  4. Choose Exact or Fast cut, then export and download.

Two ways to trim

Select the part you want on the waveform, or type exact start and end times. Every time field accepts forms like 1:02.5, 62.5 or 1m2s, has nudge buttons, and the handles on the waveform move in steps of 10 milliseconds with the arrow keys (100 ms with Shift, 1 ms with Alt).

Exact re-encodes the selection, so the cut lands precisely where you put it and you can add fades. Fast copies the compressed audio without re-encoding, so quality is untouched and it finishes instantly, but the cut can only land on whole audio frames (about 26 ms for MP3). Fast is offered when the output stays in the input format.

Check the cut before you export

Press play to hear the selection, loop it, or use Hear start and Hear end to listen to one second on each side of a cut point. Zoom with the buttons, the plus and minus keys, or Ctrl or Cmd and the mouse wheel; pinch on a touch screen. Short fades at the edges remove clicks if you cut mid-sound.

Output and quality

By default the result has the same format as the input and a similar bitrate. Open Output settings to pick another format, bitrate, sample rate or channel layout. Tags are kept unless you remove them. The file name is yours to edit before downloading.

Questions

Does trimming lower the quality?

Exact mode re-encodes lossy formats such as MP3 once, at a bitrate close to the original, which is a small change. WAV and FLAC stay lossless. Fast mode copies the audio untouched.

How precise is the cut?

Exact mode is precise to the sample: the result is as long as your selection to within a few milliseconds. Fast mode snaps to audio frames and shows how far.

Can I trim a long recording on my phone?

Yes. Files are read in pieces, so even long recordings open quickly. Use the nudge buttons and the time fields for precise edges, because dragging on a small screen is coarse.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
