Voice Recorder
Record straight from the browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, and the microphone is only used while you record.
Press the button and allow the microphone when the browser asks. The recording stays on this device; nothing is uploaded. The microphone is on only while this page shows it as on.
How it works
- Choose a microphone and allow access when the browser asks.
- Press Record; pause and resume as needed.
- Stop, listen back, and trim if you like.
- Pick a format and download.
What it does
The recorder opens your microphone in the browser, shows the level and a scrolling waveform while you talk, and keeps the audio in memory until you save it. After you stop you can listen back, trim the start and end, rename the file and save it as MP3, WAV, M4A, Opus, FLAC or OGG. Nothing is uploaded: the page never sends your voice anywhere.
The microphone is on only from the moment you press Enable microphone until you stop or turn it off. Your browser also shows its own recording indicator while it is on.
Getting a clean recording
Echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain control are off by default. They are built for calls, and they can make a voice sound thin, pump the level or cut the ends of words. Turn one on only if the room or the microphone needs it. The meter shows peak and average level: aim for peaks around −12 to −6 dB. If the clip warning appears, the input reached full scale and that part is distorted, so lower the input volume or move back from the microphone and record again.
Recording is mono at the device sample rate unless you choose stereo. Stereo helps only with a microphone that has two channels.
Limits
A recording is held in memory as 16-bit audio, so one take is limited to about 256 MB: roughly 45 minutes of mono at 48 kHz. The page tells you how much is left while you record and stops cleanly at the limit, keeping what you recorded. If you reload or close the page before saving, the recording is lost, so the page asks first.
Recording needs a secure page (https) and a browser that allows microphone access. On a phone, the browser may pause recording when you switch to another app.
Questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The audio is captured, held and saved in your browser. There is no server that receives it.
The browser says the microphone is blocked. What now?
Open the site settings from the lock icon next to the address, set Microphone to Allow and press Try again. If you never saw a prompt, check that your operating system allows the browser to use the microphone.
Which format should I save in?
MP3 plays everywhere and is small. WAV and FLAC keep every detail of the recording, WAV being larger. M4A and Opus give small files that sound good for speech.
Can I pause and carry on?
Yes. Pause keeps the take open and Resume continues it as one file, without the paused time. The microphone stays on while paused.
Why can I not choose a different microphone while recording?
Changing the microphone restarts it, which would cut the recording. Choose the microphone and options first, or stop and start a new take.
