Find out exactly what a file says about itself, including the tags other tools hide.

or drop it here

MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, WAV, AIFF, WMA and more. The audio is not decoded.. Files stay on your device.

How it works

  1. Choose an audio file; nothing is decoded or uploaded.
  2. Read the summary, or open a tag type to see its raw ids and values.
  3. Save any artwork, or copy or download everything as JSON.

What you see

A summary of the standard tags, the technical details of the file, and then every tag exactly as stored, grouped by type: ID3v2 frames, ID3v1, APE tags, Vorbis comments, iTunes (MP4) atoms, RIFF INFO and others. A file can carry several tag types at once and they do not always agree, which is often the reason a player shows something different from another program.

Embedded artwork is listed with its type, pixel size, format and file size, and each picture can be saved. Chapters, such as those in audiobooks, are listed with their start times.

Raw values, shown safely

Values are shown as plain text and never interpreted. Long values are shortened with a Show all button and anything beyond 64 KB is cut off and marked. Binary data is summarised by its size instead of being dumped. Pictures are only displayed when they are verified JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP images; SVG pictures are listed but not shown, because an SVG can contain scripts.

WAV and AIFF chunks

For WAV and AIFF files an extra section lists every chunk with its size and decodes the Broadcast Wave (bext) fields and iXML text that field recorders write. That is where recorder names, take numbers and time references live, which ordinary tag readers do not show.

Copy it out

Copy as JSON puts the tags, technical details, picture descriptions and chapters on the clipboard, and Download JSON saves them as a file. Picture bytes are not included in the JSON.

Questions

Does the viewer play or decode the audio?

No. Only the headers and tag areas are read, so even large files open at once.

Why does a file show different titles in different programs?

Because it may hold both an ID3v1 and an ID3v2 tag, or APE and ID3 together, and programs prefer different ones. Open the type groups here to see each one.

Can it show hidden or private data?

It shows every tag the file declares, including private ID3 frames and unknown MP4 atoms, as ids with their values. It cannot show data hidden in the sound itself.

Which formats are supported?

MP3, M4A and MP4 audio, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis and Opus, WAV, AIFF, WMA, AAC and most other audio files. Reading works even for formats whose tags cannot be edited.
