Split Stereo into Left and Right
Pull the two channels of a stereo file apart into their own files.
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, WMA, AMR and the sound of most videos. Files stay on your device.
How it works
- Choose a stereo file.
- Choose Left, Right or both.
- Preview each channel.
- Download the files, or both as a ZIP.
One file or two
Choose Left only or Right only to save a single channel as a mono file, or Both to create two files, named with -left and -right, that you can download together as a ZIP. Each file is a mono recording of one side, in the output format you choose.
This is how you separate two microphones recorded to one stereo file, keep the clean side of a recording with a noisy side, or take the left and right of a mix into an editor as two tracks.
Previewing a channel
Preview plays the left channel or, with the Preview channel choice, the right. Playing the original from the waveform plays both. Files with more than two channels use the first two.
Limits
A mono file has no second channel, so the tool asks for a stereo file. The split is exact: samples are copied, not mixed, and each output is as long as the input. Lossy formats are encoded once more per file.
Questions
How do I extract only the left or right channel?
Choose Left only or Right only, then export. The result is a mono file with that channel.
Can I download both channels at once?
Yes. Choose Both and press Split. The two results appear together with a Download all (.zip) button.
Are the channels mixed together in the output?
No. Each output contains only its own channel.
Can I join the two files back into one stereo file?
Not in this tool, which only splits. Your original stereo file is not changed, so you can keep using it.
