WAV to MP3 Converter
Drop in WAV files and get MP3 back in seconds, processed entirely on your device.
WAV files (most other audio and video files work too). Files stay on your device.
How it works
- Choose your WAV file, or drop it on the page. You can add several files at once.
- Choose MP3 quality: a bitrate (128 to 320 kbps; 192 kbps is a common balance) or leave the default.
- Click Convert. Processing happens on your device and shows progress; you can cancel at any time.
- Preview the result and download the MP3 file. With several files, download them all as one ZIP.
About WAV to MP3 conversion
WAV (Waveform Audio File Format, RIFF container) suits editing, mastering, sampling and handing audio between programs without quality loss. MP3 (MPEG-1/2 Audio Layer III) suits music libraries, podcasts and sharing when you cannot know what the listener uses.
Going from uncompressed WAV to lossy MP3 trades a small, usually inaudible amount of detail for a much smaller file. Keep the WAV original if you may want to edit or re-encode later.
For a 4-minute track, a typical WAV file is about 42 MB and a typical MP3 file is about 6 MB. Your own result depends on the bitrate and the audio itself.
WAV vs MP3
MP3 support: Plays on virtually every phone, car stereo, TV, browser and media player made in the last 25 years.
WAV support: Opens in every audio editor and operating system. Browsers and phones play it, though not every player shows tags.

Quality and compatibility notes
- MP3: Each re-encode loses a little more detail, and there is no true gapless support without extra tags.
- WAV: Large files: about 10 MB per minute at CD quality. The classic format stops at 4 GB, which RF64 extends.
- MP3 bitrate range: 128 to 320 kbps; 192 kbps is a common balance.
- Tags: MP3 stores ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags, including cover art.
Questions
Does converting WAV to MP3 reduce quality?
A small amount of detail is discarded, which is how MP3 gets smaller. At a reasonable bitrate the difference is hard to hear.
How big will the MP3 file be?
For a 4-minute track, a typical WAV file is about 42 MB and a typical MP3 file is about 6 MB. Your own result depends on the bitrate and the audio itself.
Is my WAV file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your device. The file is never sent to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
